Home Care in Danbury, CT for Seniors Who Want to Stay Home
Staying at home gets harder when bathing, cooking, and getting around the house start to take more effort. Ebenezer AFL helps Danbury seniors and adults with disabilities keep living where they're comfortable. Sometimes a family member provides the care and gets paid for it. Sometimes one of our caregivers does. All of our services are non-medical, and we start with a free consultation.
Paid Caregiving Through Adult Family Living
If you already help a parent or relative who lives with you, Adult Family Living may let you earn a weekly tax-free stipend for that work. You decide who the caregiver is: a daughter, son, relative, or friend. Spouses are excluded.
The caregiver needs to be 18 or older, legally allowed to work in the United States, capable of providing care, and living in the client's household. The client generally needs to:
- Be 65 or older
- Have or qualify for Medicaid
- Need daily hands-on care and supervision
- Live in a home that is safe and suitable for care
Clients under 65 may be able to receive care through the PCA Waiver instead.
You don't have to figure out the paperwork alone. We handle the full application for services, help with Medicaid enrollment if it's needed, and get the caregiver credentialed. Once care is underway, caregivers receive training, oversight, coaching, emotional support, and access to respite.
Everyday Help From an Ebenezer Caregiver
For clients without a family caregiver at home, Ebenezer caregivers provide non-medical home care on a flexible schedule. A visit might cover help getting bathed and dressed, a prepared meal, and a medication reminder. A longer schedule can add laundry, dishes, tidying, and a ride-along to a medical appointment.
Companionship matters too. A conversation, a shared meal, or time spent on a hobby can ease the loneliness that often comes with aging at home. We also provide dementia and Alzheimer's support and 24-hour live-in care for clients who need someone there around the clock.
Veterans Care in Danbury
Ebenezer serves honorably discharged veterans, their spouses, and surviving spouses through our Veterans Care Services. Care plans follow the veteran's own routines and habits. Although we do not directly administer VA benefits, our staff is familiar with Aid and Attendance and similar programs. We can document care needs to support an application or renewal.
How We Get Started
The first step is a phone call or email to set up a free consultation. We talk through daily routines, concerns, and goals, then build a care plan for the household. Plans are flexible and are reviewed regularly as needs or family availability shift.
Next comes matching. We pair each client with a compatible caregiver so care stays consistent from week to week. Every caregiver is carefully screened and background checked, CPR and First Aid certified where applicable, and trained in hands-on care, safety, and specialized care needs.
Danbury and the Surrounding Area
We work out of offices in Stratford and Shelton and serve families across Connecticut. Here in western Connecticut, that includes Danbury along with Bethel, Brookfield, and Ridgefield. Hablamos Español: our team works with Spanish-speaking families throughout eligibility, enrollment, and care. For a fuller picture of what we do, visit Ebenezer AFL's main page.
Danbury Families Ask
Are Ebenezer caregivers background checked?
Yes. Every caregiver is carefully screened and background checked before working with clients. Caregivers are CPR and First Aid certified where applicable, and trained in hands-on care and safety.
My adult son lives with me. Can he be paid to care for me?
He can if you both meet the requirements. He must be 18 or older and legally allowed to work in the United States. You must have Medicaid and need daily hands-on care. If you qualify, he receives a weekly tax-free stipend through Adult Family Living.
What age does Adult Family Living serve?
AFL generally serves clients 65 and older who have or qualify for Medicaid. For younger adults on Medicaid, the PCA Waiver may be the right program.
Can a caregiver take my mother to her appointments?
Yes. Escort to appointments is one of our standard non-medical services. A caregiver goes with the client to and from appointments or outings.
Will you help with VA benefit paperwork?
We don't administer VA benefits ourselves. When requested, we help veterans and their families document care needs and provide supporting materials for Aid and Attendance and other benefit applications or renewals.
