Home Care in New Britain, CT With Family at the Center

When a parent or relative in New Britain needs help at home, the person best placed to give it often already lives under the same roof. Ebenezer AFL works with those families. We provide non-medical home care, and we help eligible relatives and friends get paid for the care they give through Adult Family Living.

How Adult Family Living Works

The program moves in three stages, and our team handles the paperwork at each one.

Check Eligibility

The client is usually 65 or older, has or qualifies for Medicaid, and needs daily hands-on care and supervision. The client and caregiver must share a household. The caregiver must be at least 18, legally allowed to work in the United States, and able to provide care. A spouse can't serve as the paid caregiver.

Apply and Get Credentialed

You choose who provides the care, whether that's a son, daughter, relative, or friend. We handle the entire application for services, explain each eligibility requirement, and get your chosen caregiver credentialed.

Start Caring and Get Paid

Once approved, the caregiver receives a weekly tax-free stipend. Training, oversight, coaching, and respite options stay available after care begins.

Clients under 65 who have Medicaid may qualify through the PCA Waiver instead. If Medicaid is not in place yet, we help with enrollment. The full program details are on our Adult Family Living page.

Help With Daily Living

Some families don't have a relative at home who can take on caregiving. For them, our caregivers come in to help with the tasks that get harder with age or disability. That includes bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and moving safely around the house. It also includes meals, medication reminders, laundry, dishes, and keeping living spaces tidy. When there's a doctor's visit or an outing, a caregiver can go along.

Care can be a few hours a day or 24-hour live-in support. Clients living with dementia or Alzheimer's receive support suited to those needs, and family caregivers can arrange respite when they need a break. You can see the complete list of non-medical home care services on its own page.

Screening and Training

Every Ebenezer caregiver is carefully screened and background checked. Caregivers are CPR and First Aid certified where applicable, and trained in hands-on care, safety, and specialized care needs.

Before care starts, we learn the household's routines, concerns, and goals, then write a care plan around them. Plans are reviewed regularly. Each client is matched with a compatible caregiver for consistency.

Support for Those Who Served

Honorably discharged veterans in New Britain, along with their spouses and surviving spouses, can receive in-home help through our Veterans Care Services. Our staff knows programs like Aid and Attendance. On request, we prepare documentation of care needs to support benefit applications or renewals.

Questions From New Britain Families

  • Who can be the paid caregiver?

A son, daughter, other relative, or friend who is 18 or older can be the paid caregiver. They must be legally allowed to work in the United States and live in the same home as the client. Spouses are the one exclusion.

  • Does my loved one need Medicaid?

Yes. Adult Family Living requires the client to have Medicaid and meet state eligibility guidelines. If they don't have coverage yet but may qualify, we help with the enrollment process.

  • How is the family caregiver paid?

Caregivers in the program receive a weekly tax-free stipend. Payment begins once the client is approved for services and the caregiver is credentialed.

  • What if nobody in the family can provide care?

Our caregivers can come to the home instead. Schedules range from a few hours a day to 24-hour live-in care, with help for bathing, dressing, meals, medication reminders, and housekeeping.

  • Do you support clients with dementia?

Yes. Dementia and Alzheimer's support is part of our non-medical services. We match each client with a compatible caregiver, and the care plan is reviewed regularly as needs change.

  • What does the first conversation cost?

Nothing. The first consultation is free. Call (475) 559-7418 or email info@ebenezerhc.com to set one up.
