Home Care in Hartford, CT That Keeps Care in the Family
Ebenezer AFL provides non-medical home care to Hartford families, with a focus on keeping care inside the family. Through Connecticut's Adult Family Living program, a daughter, son, relative, or friend who lives with a loved one can become that person's paid caregiver. We handle the application, guide you through eligibility, and support the caregiver once care begins.

Getting Paid to Care for a Loved One
Many Hartford households already have someone doing this work: helping a parent bathe, cooking meals, driving to appointments. Adult Family Living turns that work into paid care. A caregiver who qualifies receives a weekly tax-free stipend. Our team also provides coaching, resources, emotional support, and respite options, so the caregiver is not carrying everything alone.
To qualify as a caregiver, you must:
• Be 18 or older
• Be legally allowed to work in the United States
• Be capable of providing care
• Live in the same home as the person you care for

Spouses can't be paid caregivers under AFL.
Who Can Receive Care
The person receiving care is usually 65 or older, has or qualifies for Medicaid, and needs help with daily activities at home. They must need daily hands-on care and supervision, and the home must be safe and suitable for care. If your loved one is under 65, ask about the PCA Waiver. If they don't have Medicaid yet, we can help with enrollment.
Non-Medical Support at Home
Not every family has a relative living in the house. Our non-medical home care covers the daily tasks that make staying home possible:
• Bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and mobility
• Meal preparation and medication reminders
• Light housekeeping
• Escorts to appointments
We also offer companionship, dementia and Alzheimer's support, respite for family caregivers, and 24-hour live-in care.
Schedules are flexible. Some clients need a few hours a day, while others need more comprehensive support. Each care plan is built around the household's routines and is reviewed regularly as needs change. We match every client with a compatible caregiver so the same familiar face keeps showing up.
Every caregiver is carefully screened and background checked. Caregivers are CPR and First Aid certified where applicable, and trained in hands-on care, safety, and specialized care needs.
Care for Veterans and Their Spouses
Hartford veterans who need help at home can turn to our Veterans Care Services. The program serves honorably discharged veterans, their spouses, and surviving spouses. Our staff is familiar with programs such as Aid and Attendance. When asked, we help document care needs for benefit applications or renewals.
Serving Hartford and Communities Across Connecticut
Our offices are in Stratford and Shelton, and we provide care across Connecticut. Families in Hartford, West Hartford, East Hartford, and Wethersfield can start the process with a phone call, and our team walks you through each step from there. Hablamos Español, so Spanish-speaking clients and caregivers can work with us in their own language.
